Facts about our weather station on the roof of the Erving Elementary School, 28 Northfield Road, Erving, MA

Erving Elementary School Weather Report

.

Our Erving Elementary School Weather Station is a Davis -Weather Monitor II. The Weather Monitor II is a powerful computer weather station that can monitor wind speed, direction and wind chill. It will also track the barometric trend along with inside humidity and inside and outside temperature.

Weather data from the Erving Elementary School roof is displayed on a console and on a computer in our lab. Information from our weather station is also uploaded to our school web site every five minutes so that everyone can see it on the web.

In this picture you can get a sense of how big the weather station is. The anemometer is right next to Christa's head. I measures wind direction and wind speed. The large black object in front of Dawn is the rain gauge. It measures rainfall. The temperature, barometer and humidity sensors are in the ribbed white metal box under the rain gauge.

The weather station is fastened to the side of the gym roof.

The sensors up on the roof feed their information to this device, a Davis Weather Monitor II. It has a display for just about everything.

Here we are testing the weather station with a computer. Information from the Weather Monitor II is transmitted to the computer when it can be stored and analyzed. The computer is very useful for making graphs of weather data over time.

Installation in progress.
