Mrs. Overgaard, long time Erving resident and former EES parent, honored us with presentations to 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Mrs. Overgaard shared her expertise as a sign lnaguage interpreter. Her job involves helping deaf and hearing people communicate with one another. She is bilingual, fluent in American Sign Language and English. To be a sign language interpreter, one must hold a college degree and specialized certification in ASL. It is also important to read broadly and enjoy learning. Sign language interpreters work in schools, medical offices, courts of law, and even parties (everywhere that people need to communicate)!
We have non fiction and fiction books about ASL, hearing, and related topics in our school library. Please stop by and borrow them!
