Reading Olympics 2001

We Read 770,156 pages!

Erving Elementary School's 2001 Read-a-thon was a Reading Olympics! At the beginning of the Read-a-thon, students were each given a "medal tracker" sheet. Students challenged themselves by completing such events as the Triathlon (reading three books by the same author), the Pentathlon (reading five books on one subject), and Synchronized Diving (reading any one book together with a friend or family member). There were eight events in all, and children who successfully completed four, six, or eight events earned bronze, silver, or gold medals, respectively.   More about RAT 2001.

Every Wednesday morning, the whole school came together for an All-School Meeting. Each week was dedicated to a different color of the Olympic flag, and everyone arrived dressed in that color. We also were treated to shows of "Olympic talent" by our fantastic students.

* Tremendous thanks are due to Marcia Bernard and the wonderful folks at lm-net who gave us the Olympic idea!
