Erving Elementary School Library

Jane Urban, the librarian is here at the school every weekday except Wednesdays, and can be reached at extension 103 or by email at urban@erving.com.

READ-A-THON MONTH IS HERE!
·      All of Erving’s students in grades K-6 have tally sheets for home and sheets for school as well, to count all the pages they read each week. We tally all the pages each Friday, so please send in the sheets, with an adult signature at the bottom, on Friday mornings. If they don’t make it in on Fridays, we’ll also accept them the next week.

·      Getting pledges is something new this year, and I realize it’s a little confusing, so I hope this will help to clarify:

On Friday, Feb. 5, pledge sheets will go home with Read-a-Thon tally sheets on two separate pages, so that families can keep track of their pledges. On Monday March 1, each student will get a note with the number of pages he/she read during the Read-a-Thon to take home.

Pledges and simple donations unrelated to pages are also welcome, and can be brought in anytime. There will be a collection jar in the school lobby, where donations can be dropped, or else they can be delivered to Ms. Urban in the library. Cash or checks are welcome; checks should be made out to Erving Elem. School, with RAT in the memo line.

·      Community Tally Sheets, for any Erving residents not connected to the school, are available at the Erving Public Library.

BOOK FAIR NEWS
The “Book Fair by BookEnds” will be in our school Tuesday, Feb. 9-Friday, Feb. 12. If you would like to see some of the selection, click here to download or view the flyer for more information about the company, go to http://www.bookfairsbybookends.com

During the Book Fair, we’re holding a “Read with a Friend Pajama Party” on Thursday evening from 6-7:30 pm. This is to give families a chance to shop at the book fair while our students read with each other. Pajamas are optional, snacks will be served, and students should come prepared to read with a partner.

AUTHOR VISIT
Author/illustrator John Lechner, of Needham, MA will be speaking on Friday, Feb. 12 to all K-6 students. He has written four wonderful children’s books, and is also a musician, puppeteer and animator. To find out more about him, go to his website http://www.johnlechner.com. You’ll even find games to play at his website. Click here for more information.

Friday, Feb. 26 is the last day that Six Flags Reading Logs can be Returned to the library. Questions about this program should be directed to Jane Urban, librarian, either by phone at 423-3326, ext. 103 or by email: urban@erving.com. Additional Six Flags Reading Logs are in the school library and the school office.
