Erving Elementary School Library
On Wednesday, January 31st, Morris Housen presented at our All-School Meeting.  Morris Housen is President and CEO of Erving Industries, the company that runs the paper mill and sponsors our Read-a-thon.  He also is a graduate of Erving Elementary School!

Mr. Housen shared the books that have influenced him most in his life.  First, he read aloud the Robert Frost poem, "The Road Not Taken."  He said that this poem continues to be meaningful to him, as life is full of choices.  When we choose to go down one road, the choice of heading down another may be left behind forever.

Other books that have been important in Mr. Housen's life include The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Manintenance, by Robert M. Pirsig, Oh, the Places You'll Go, by Dr. Seuss, and books about Shackleton's epic voyage to Antarctica.  Mr. Housen also talked about authors that are important to him.  One he reads a lot is Peter Drucker, who has written many books about working in the business world.  Sometimes, he even reads books that are a bit boring, because he knows he can learn from them.

Mr. Housen talked about reading with his children, and sharing special stories with them.  He also showed a book that his father had given him when he was a child, inscribed with a message that is still special now that he is grown-up.

After his talk, Mr. Housen took a tour of his alma mater with two fifth grade students.  He visited all of the classrooms and answered children's questions.  He even listened to Ms. Bridgewater's 6th graders recite the Robert Frost poem they have been learning!
