Erving Elementary School Library
On Monday, 12 February, Law student and Erving parent Beth Lux visited our library.

Ms. Lux told us that, to be a lawyer, one has to finish high school, complete a 4 year college degree and a 3 year law degree. In May, Ms. Lux will graduate and earn her juris doctorate (or j.d.). Then, before she can practice law, she will take the Massachusetts Bar Exam.

To pass the Bar Exam, law students must study and read a lot! Ms. Lux showed us just one of the ten books that she will be studying to prepare for the exam. Students asked if she had to know just about everything in the books. The answer is yes!

What does a lawyer do? Lawyers listen. People come to lawyers with problems they need solved. Lawyers help people set up their businesses, settle disputes, make wills, and more.

Mostly, lawyers read! To be a lawyer, you have to read a lot, think a lot, and be able to understand and analyze what you read.

Some people with law degrees try cases in court; other law careers include being a law librarian, a sign language interpreter in a court of law, union leader, judge, or, even, president!
