PRINCIPAL’S CORNER
Every year after the students and staff return from the April vacation, the school year seems to “fly by” quickly. Before too long, the staff will be waving good-bye to our students to begin a well-deserved summer break.
This coming week, Erving Elementary Students in grades three through six will be tested in the area of MCAS mathematics. In addition, grade five students will also take tests in science as well as social studies. There are two sessions scheduled for each level test. Please remember to encourage your student to have a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before each day of testing. The following schedule is in place for each grade:

I would like to mention an important health concern to all families in Erving. If you are interested in bringing an animal into school, it is very important to complete the following steps:
1. Speak with your child’s teacher first to ask if it is an event the teacher feels is appropriate for the class. 2. The teacher will check with the nurse if any students have allergies to animals. 3. The nurse will alert the teacher of staff members who have allergies to certain animals.
The school wants to always ensure that all students and staff are not exposed to unnecessary health risks concerning allergies. Therefore, if an animal is brought into the school unannounced, it could pose a health concern to some people. To avoid that situation and potential risk, please follow the above steps so that your child’s teacher has taken all precautions. Many children and staff are fine with animals in their presence, but the school needs to provide a safe and healthy environment for all members of our school community. Thank you for accepting the seriousness of this concern. The school wishes to thank all Erving families who attended the annual town meeting and participated in the Democratic process for having a vote in their town’s governmental process.
On Thursday evening, Preschool Orientation for parents/guardians will occur in the Preschool Room from 7 PM – 8 PM. This evening is very informative for families of incoming preschoolers. Registration materials will be distributed and various staff members will be present to speak about their roles at EES. In addition, a question and answer period will occur. We are looking forward to meeting our incoming preschool families.
As quickly as our year is about to end, there are many wonderful and exciting opportunities for our students. Please continue to refer to the upcoming events calendar that was attached to last week’s Inside Erving edition. Have a wonderful weekend!
